The Mzuzu City Council has received a new waste collection vehicle from the Malawi Government to enhance waste management and sanitation services across strategic areas of the city.
The vehicle was officially handed over during a ceremony held in Lilongwe, where the government also launched the Nationwide Inter-Ministerial Implementation Plan for Executive Order No. 2 of 2026. The initiative focuses on the mandatory provision of waste disposal facilities in public places, schools, and workplaces.
This vehicle is part of a fleet of eight refuse collection trucks procured with support from the Global Fund. The trucks are being distributed to city councils and central hospitals across the country to strengthen waste management systems.
His Worship the Mayor of Mzuzu, Chiyembekezo Moses, led the Mzuzu City Council delegation to the handover ceremony. He described the donation as a significant boost to the Council’s operations, which have long depended on an aging fleet.
The addition of the new vehicle is expected to improve efficiency in waste collection and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for residents of Mzuzu.
